Lisette Varela was born in Queens, NY, one of the most diverse places in the world.

She is the daughter of immigrants and was born to a Dominican Mami and a Spanish Papi. After college, she started her career in publishing and has always loved learning languages, good writing, and the power of words.

Lisette is married and has two adult sons.  She teaches English (ESL) to adults who have recently immigrated to the United States. In that capacity, she gets to delve into language.  Her favorite part is that she gets to meet people from many different countries and learn about new cultures.  She also enjoys volunteering at a local cancer clinic and has tutored GED students to help them pass the exam.

She LOVES cooking and eating dishes from all over the world.  Some of her favorite cuisines are Thai, Italian, and Latin American.  She loves pizza, sushi, and gelato.

Lisette loves traveling and reading.  Her favorite genre is historical fiction.

Here is a picture of our dog Marley.  We adopted her several years ago.  She is a sweetie. But, she is always getting into trouble especially when she decides to chew on our books and eat all the tissues in our tissue box!
