Abbey’s Hope Family

Diversity Makes us Sparkle
Inclusion Makes Us Shine
— Lisette Varela

Abbey is born with special needs and her parents only wish is that she is happy and becomes an important part of society.  As Abbey grows, she works with physical, occupational and speech therapists on her childhood development.  At school, she makes supportive and helpful friends who share her interests.  Lastly, at Abbey’s job at the local museum, her co-workers help her succeed.  With the support of her Hope Family, Abbey is able to thrive.

Inspiration For Abbey’s Hope Family

Lisette’s husband is a pediatric Physical Therapist. He treats children who have Down Syndrome, Autism and many other diagnoses. He comes home full of stories of their accomplishments and progress. These children and their parents are the main inspiration for this book. In addition, so are the caring therapists, teachers, doctors and friends who form a special bond with these children and are a big part of their Hope Family.

She was also partially inspired to write her first book Abbey’s Hope Family because of her own challenges with medical issues.

“We absolutely enjoyed the book!”….We love the focus on the hope family and all the roles discussed in the book.  You will not regret purchasing this book and we highly recommend for those with children in any age and stage”

“The topic of special needs, acceptance and diversity is well developed in this children’s story.  It will be a story worth re-reading with children when they encounter other children that don’t look like them, talk like them, or come from different cultures.  Recommend to purchase a copy for all the children in your life”

Here is a picture of the desk where I work and write.  It is nice and bright.  My working theory is that natural light keeps me positive and creative.
